Description
The program is dedicated to future leaders tackling with some of the most urgent global problems: climate change, energy transition and environmental crisis. The causes and the effects of these matters are so intricate that there is the need of a transdisciplinary approach in public policies and planning for a sustainable future.
The program is at the nexus of social, human and natural science so that our graduate students are able to break disciplinary boundaries and work together with experts from different fields to propose sustainable solutions for the future of the Earth.
In the first semester, you will meet students from masters dealing with environmental change from humanities and natural science perspectives. The classes will offer a dive into different scientific approaches and methodological tools in order to implement a transdisciplinary scientific endeavour. The next two semester are focused on social sciences approach. The classes are designed to bring multiple expertise in order for an in-depth understanding of the social dimension of the phenomenon. Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, The Faculty of Business and Administration, Faculty of Journalism and Communication Studies and Faculty of Political Science provide the classes in semester 2 and 3. For the fourth semester you will be guided into writing a transdisciplinary dissertation thesis, using the knowledge and tools presented along the master.
Admission essay should be based on any topic related to climate change/climate justice/politics of climate/public policies in dealing with climate change/consumption patterns and environmental crisis, communication in sustainable development, Corporate Social Responsibility, etc. The academic essay should be based on academic literature and be between 3.200 – 4.000 words (including bibliography). As a structure, the essay should have an introduction (stating the issue raised by your essay or a research objective for a future research that you would like to do during the master and why you find that topic important), review of academic literature relevant for the issue/research objective, a conclusion area stating how the issue/topic/research objective raised in introduction is being dealt in the academic literature mentioned in literature review and bibliography. Please, for further information regarding academic writing, consult the guide available here.
For the interview (please consult the Admission page for further information on admission process), the discussion will be based on your essay and your motivation regarding this master.
